This was a commissioned piece for a film which is still in production.  The work was to show the relationship between childhood and adulthood, half is done by the father and the other half by his seven year old son.  The piece was to show a memento to the past giving a flashback to the sons childhood.

Pencil study of a resting deer from Knole Park which i wanted to draw. This cute character didn't mind me getting to close to it while it was resting near its mother. It was quite a magical experience like something out of disney's Bambi.

Pastels On Paper

I rarely draw in pastels so this is a new experience for me. I find it really difficult to get the right blend of mixtures, tones and colours to interlink with one another, especially on the fur .  So this took quite a bit of time, as I'm normally drawing in pencil.  However I found this quite an exciting challenge as adding colour really brings the hare to life.  This has made me want to draw more in pastels as the softness of the pastels gives a rich texture to the paper and a vibrant sense of the environment the hare is in.

Night Watch

Night Watch 2010
Watercolour on Paper

The Barn Owl has to be one of my top listed inspiring animals.  As to me there quite charming to look as well as rabbits :) The owl itself having connotations of knowledge and wisdom being a creature of the night. These creatures are very magical, especially in flight as they reflect the moonlight from there white feathers.  I've given a mixture for the background behind as i wanted to have a contrast between light and dark tones giving a sense of depth and atmosphere by highlighting the magical aspects of the barn owl in the drawing.

On Look Out

On Look Out 2010
Watercolour on Paper

There are many drawings of rabbits on my blog mainly because i had an obsession with drawing and researching them in my art foundation year at Byam Shaw after watching and reading Richard Adam's Watership Down. I'd remembered seeing the film when i was really small and it terrified me especially towards the ending.    I  came across the film again last year and had to buy it.   Then soon after wards I brought the book, which gives more of an insight of the storyline, the characters etc including the rabbit's own fairy hood tales and stories of El-ahrairah. My favorite short story was El-arhrairah and the Black Rabbit.  The drawing could be the great prince himself on lookout when stealing the kings lettuces.

During Easter we visited the Peak District for a week whilst staying in a comfortable cottage in Whatstandwell, in Derbyshire.  The place was amazing including long wildlife walks, nature reverses, and stunning views of the countryside.  This was one of the drawings i did up there of a charming red robin on a winters branch :)

Feather Study 2

Feather Study 2
Silver point on Fabriano

I find feathers quite beautiful to look and started collecting them in my first year.  I like how delicate and fragile they looked with the different textures and patterns they provided.  Every time a feather falls it goes on a little journey.  They are very poetic and spiritual. I found myself drawing them from life using silver point pen as i think it highlights that soft surface of the feather as though you could touch it.

A feather is a single memory a collection of feathers is a lifetime!

This fellow was also another character at Peak District who came to visit the cottages some nights to eat the food that the farmer left him on the grass.

The mouse in mo's house

The Mouse In Mo's House 2009
Watercolours On Fabriano

There's a story behind this piece my friend Mo kept telling me about a mouse he couldn't catch in his bedroom that kept him awake most nights with scratching and scurrying around his bedroom floor and under his bed.  So I decided to draw a picture of the scenario lol.  Now it seems to be a barking dog that keeps him awake in the night.  I would prefer the mouse!!  Again its only a rough sketch as its still not finished.

Knole Park No 2

Knole Park No 2, 2008
Watercolour on Fabriano

These were done a few years ago now but i normally like going up to Knole Park in Seven Oaks during the summer with my mates.  Its well known for being a deer park as its like being surrounded by loads of Bambi's lol.   I make a few amount of sketches in my sketchbook then normally have a pint in the local pub with my mates before coming back home.
